Ways you can give
Our church buildings may be closed. But church life goes on – be it online, by phone, as we occasionally see each other across the road and as we pray and worship in our own homes.
And bills still have to be paid. Electricity is still being supplied to our churches, insurance has to be paid, and the costs of ministry are still there – our clergy and readers are not furloughed!
So please do not forget your giving – it is part of our worship and that is ongoing. And please remember that where we are normally dependent on fund-raising, that cannot happen – and probably won’t be able to for a while yet.
So what to do?
- If you give by standing order, then that will continue. Thank you.
- If you give cash into the collection plate regularly, please put your regular amount aside
each week. And then bring it when we all meet again. (Or send a cheque with the amount.)
- Maybe this is a time to consider giving by standing order, if you don’t already. It helps the
church enormously – and you don’t have to be a tax payer. Please be in touch to make
arrangements.

But of course, your circumstances might be that you have to decrease your giving, rather than increase. Whether we increase, decrease, or keep our giving the same, it is important that we do it consciously and prayerfully. This is an active part of worship.

There are so many ways you can give to your church. Perhaps the most precious gift is the gift of your presence at worship. We can also give of our time - perhaps by offering a skill that you have that could enhance the church - flower arranging, administration, pastoral care, making the tea.
Churches are made up of people - but the life and mission of your church needs financial support.
Making a gift of financial support to your church helps establish our ministries on a stable institutional foundation, and provide for their future development. Like other Church of England churches, we effectively run on voluntary giving. The largest proportions of our costs cover the stipend of our full-time priest, the maintenance of our buildings and other essential overheads.
The most efficient way to make a gift of financial support is through planned giving: that is, forward-planning and committing a regular sum to the life of your church, and maintaining this as far as you are able throughout the year. This can be done by joining the Parish Giving Scheme, Standing Order, or through the Weekly Envelope scheme.
Other ways to support the ministry of your church is to include one-off gifts, and legacies. A legacy enables you to continue supporting the life of the church after you die: it is an act of generosity and charity which will benefit those who are still making their earthly pilgrimage within the family of faith. If you wish to leave a legacy to your church, please make the Parochial Church Council of either Bentworth, Lasham, Medstead or Shalden a beneficiary of your Will. You may wish to add to, or to alter, an existing Will; this is done by means of a Codicil. We advise that you speak to your solicitor if you wish to make this kind of gift.

We can reclaim 25% of your gifts and donations from the government. This comes from the tax you pay on your income and which we can claim back to support the church. This costs you nothing. Please use the gift aid form found on the individual church page. Every little extra bit helps out: especially if it comes from your taxes.
With this in mind, we ask every member of the church family to consider how much he or she is prepared to give to the work of the church's ministry - a weekly or monthly sum: we ask you to pledge this sum as a financial commitment, since it gives our parishes more certainty in planning their financial outlays.
